John Diefenbaker
#1. He ran for a seat in the house of commons in 1925 and 1935, but lost. He tried the provincial legislature in 1929 and 1938, but lost again. He ran for mayor of Prince Albert in 1933 also failed.
We picked this to be number 1 because it shows that he was so determined and he wanted it so bad. It shows that if he wanted something, he would go to extreams to get it, and that shows great leadership. If he believed in something, he would make it happen and thats why Sarah & I picked this to be number 1.
#2. He became he first Canadian Prime Minister to travel north of the Artic Circle.
We picked this to be number 2 because the reason that he went to the North of the Artic Circle was because he thought that the natives should have the rights to vote. So he went there to fight for the Native American rights and he succedded .
#3. He appointed Ellen Fairclougn first woman cabinet minister.
We chose this to be number 3 because it changed from just males to males and females, so the sexist part of it was over.We also chose this because she was the first cabinet minister, that was a woman. The sexist issue back then was huge, so when he chose her, there must have been some comusion about it. When John George Diefenbaker wanted something, was determined to get it, he made it happen.
Our crest is made up of theses three reasons and from how many significant choices we had, theses are the ones that we truely believed were extreamly significant and they stood apart from the others and when put together they show how great of a Prime Minister John George Diefenbaker truely was.
